Whether should we college students curb spending?

There is an interesting phenomenon that clothes shops, restaurants, and gift stores always locate around universities, which implies that college students are the perfect consumer group. Nowadays, college students are wild about clothes and shoes of famous brand, high-tech product, entering into some expensive public place of entertainment as if the money is the pie falling down from the sky, ignoring the bearing of parents. The type of college students’ consumption has transformed from “for living” to “for enjoy”. Some people believe that this kind of college students’ consumption reflects the standard of living is rising, so it should be soundly accepted. However, in my opinion, the phenomenon should be criticized. college students have no reasons to take it for granted that abuse parents’ money. On the contrary, we are supposed to keep the grateful heart to our parents and their selfless pay for us. What’s more, this consuming behavior called conformity consumption is not rational, which is also unmatched with the requirement of the tradition to be economical. In addition, when every college students get involved into the whirlpool of comparing unrealistically, they and their family will suffer the pain of limitless pay for it. and it can even give rise to some serious crime. Why not consume as we really wish deep down? Why not throw the useless false pride out? In conclusion, I reckon that it is necessary to advocate a correct and rational consumption among college students .

  1. My former university are in a university city, which also combined with a lot of shopping mall. Businessmen are very smart, because they know college student are the virility of the econemy. Maybe, we are not mature enough and like to show off, in particular, we don't know make money is a tough work. Well, I hate the person spend money without hersitat even his/her parents are poor. I won't do that kind of things, never and ever.

  2. What you say is absolutely right. I personally do not like to buy things of the famous brands, just because they are very expensive for no reasons. However, sometimes I have to because I am big-sized and only clothes of big companies can fit me...

  3. I can not agree with you more.Spending money sensibly is necessary for us. The trivial upward comparison does corrupt morals and behaviours. Moreover, it makes people vainglorious.I do not like it.

  6. I have never thought much of spending on shopping so far in my life. However, I have come to realise that our desires are usually not commensurate (can i use this word here?) with our spending power.

When I was a kid, I wanted to buy many different kinds of toys and card games. Now, I can afford to buy almost anything I wanted to before, but I have lost interest in most of those toys (other than for nostalgia).

When I was still a poor struggling musician, I wanted to buy expensive, top of the range, bass guitars. Now, I can afford to buy really good ones; but, I worry that I won't have the time to play much music from here on out. I have a new reason to hold off getting a new bass guitar...
