Today we are supposed to have our second learning journey, and our destinations are Singapore national museum and Singapore art museum. In my view, I think the latter is much more interesting than the former.
There are a plenty of odd and interesting exhibitions in Singapore art museum, and three pairs of wings captured my attention easily during my visit, and this artwork left a quite deep impression on me. I can remember clearly that these three pairs of wings are made of hundreds of slippers. Furthermore, the source of these slippers makes this artwork even more meaningful. As the introduction shows, these slippers are all collected from the prisons in Singapore. The artist uses these slippers to make three pairs of big wings, which means the freedom which the prisoners are all looking forward to. As far as I am concerned, this artwork indicates the exact meaning of art. From this kind of good artworks, we can not only understand the definition of beauty, we can also comprehend our society and history. We are able to figure out some repulsiveness and scandals in our society and in long history, because actually artists are usually good at reflect these repugnant phenomena by the mean of sarcasm. Therefore, we can think back over all these things that happened and be more forward-looking and smart in the future. That is what the power of art can bring us.
I really enjoyed my visit to Singapore art museum, and if given another chance, I will visit it again.
I appreciate you can enjoy the artworks. Indeed, some artworks can give us some thoughts, but some of them truely hard to understand. Anyway, this journey is very meaningful.
ReplyDeleteThe learning journey is indeed a pleasant and a significant trip, and your blog let me think about the definition of "beauty". I think there is a sentence saying "Beauty comes from the eyes of the beholder", so I think different people will give different answers.
