When I was in China, all the news and books convinced me that Dalai was a savage dictator who ran an enslaved system in Tibet. However, almost all the news here in Singapore speaks highly of Dalai as a brave leader fighting for the freedom of Tibet. Why there are two entirely different reports on the same event? I wonder. But I am sure of one thing that one side must have lain.
As far as I am concerned, events are facts. Facts are fixed things. They cannot be altered by our wishes, our inclinations or the dictates of our passions. Thus, I query what the responsibility of the media is – presenting the truth or their own bias. As is known to all, the media is a link between the society and individuals. It keeps us informed of what is going on in the world and catching up with the world trend. However, can you imagine what we focus on and care about wholeheartedly is not the truth? The feeling of being cheated is really nuisance. What makes matters worse, we may never know the truth and waste our sentiment on nonsense.
Additionally, I also wonder whether the media is a tool for us to make a voice or just the official stage of the men of great power. The wrong news about Dalai is contempt for the readers. The people who post the news ignore the impact on the young generation who still cannot tell the right and wrong.
Thus, even though the media have brought us a lot of convenience, we still should be vigilant of what the news tell us instead of believing blindly.
Some questions do not have a "apodeictic" answer. However, I believe it is good to know more through different ways.
ReplyDeleteYes, I`ve already said that you cannot take everything you read to be totally true. Yes,they`re based on facts but they`re emotionally charged as well. That`s why we cannot just take from one source . We need to read widely and think critically as you`re doing. Yes, media is the link but how things are reported really depends on many factors. I don`t think there can be found neutral reporting in any country because of the many influences and influential entities that exist.
ReplyDeleteSometimes, news can be influenced by politics. We should have our own discerning abilities and not believe everything we see in the newspapers.
ReplyDeletei think it is all right to believe which you want to believe. you can just follow your heart.
