I Will Not Copy My Handbook
On March 1st evening, while I was showering, auntie’s voice came out of the microphone. I did not give any attention. However, when the room leader came back, he brought us an awful piece of news that we all have to transcribe the Eton Hall handbook, the reason for which actually was that many of us had broken the rules, so in order to make us aware of the Eton Hall’s disciplines, all of the SM2 and SM3 scholars have to make a hand copy of Eton Hall handbook.
Once heard of the news, I had made up my mind not to copy the handbook. It was not only because that I had never violated any of the rules, but also that I thought this order was totally unreasonable and inhuman. Why should we pay for what we have not done yet and we may never do—violating the rules? Even the minority of the scholars had disobeyed the rules, why should the majority take the responsibility? Besides, to say the least, there is no such rule in the handbook that if someone breaks the regulation, all the students will have to copy the handbook. The command itself is the violation to handbook.
I was to some extent offended and insulted. I talked to some of my tutors. They also strongly disapproved the order and encouraged me to fight for our rights. So I made a phone call to the chairman of Eton Hall—who had an acquaintance with me. He obviously did not want to talk too much, which means he would not cancel the order. However, he promised to come to my room. At around 8:30, March 2nd, chairman went into my room and talked to me about the order. I voiced my strong antagonism, yet he just stated the necessity for everyone to memorize the rules. He said that he knew this is nonsensical and unfair, but he cannot withdraw the order. Since every effort seemed futile, I calmly told him that I would not copy the handbook. I had to admit that I did my best to get rid of this chaos, but what I had done was all in vain.
What will you do, my friends?
Although I have already copied the Eton Hell handbook, I am on your side!
