An unpredictable punishment

An unpredictable punishment
At this Friday night, I was caught drinking alcohol in Eton Hall, and I was punished to write the Eton Hall Handbook two times. It made me feel so regret. That’s because I did not read the handbook carefully in advance, and I don’t know we cannot drink red wine in Eton Hall.
I told the auntie that red wine is good for our health, because it can soft our cardiovascular. However, she did not agree with me. Otherwise, red wine is alcohol which is absolutely forbidden in Eton Hall. We can drink how much we want outside, but we cannot drink it here.
I had no choice but copy the handbook.
I am not addicted to alcohol, and I think we should be allowed to drink it. Due to we are mature, and we are not addicted to alcohol, but it is our regulation that red wine is prohibited, we had no choice but observe it.
I suppose it is an unlucky experience for me, but it also taught me how to behave in Eton Hall. However, some regulations really make me feel uncomfortable, like we cannot cut our hair in the room and corridor, and girls’ and boys’ relationship should not exist. Most of the boarders have the same feeling as mine. Therefore, most of the regulations have no use for us. We always can find some way to avoid it.
I reckon this is not the goal for the regulation. We are adult now, and we have our conception of what we want to do and what we should do. We cannot be limited by the regulation if we know what we are doing is right.
Therefore, I wish the one who have made the regulations should consider more about our emotion and feeling.

  1. first, we are not adult in singapore, and the so called mature is used to cheat ourselves. we are not that mature. About the regulations, I think the saying is right, when in Rome, do as romans do. Now that the singaporeans can obey the rules, we will have no problem observing them.

  2. Rules and regulations abound in all institutions simply to make sure a certain code of conduct is adhered to. And hostels are no exception. Don`t forget, you may not be addicted but how can you be sure others are not? So it`s justified that the hostel punished you. I also agree that cutting hair in rooms or corridor should be forbidden because of the mess this leaves behind. Again some students may be irresponsible and not clean up after them. We live in a civilised society where rules are meant to be obeyed so that we can conform to a certain standard of socially accepted behaviour.

  3. It is hard for us to express our opinions to the officer, so maybe accepting the punishment is wiser. Once we live in Eton Hall, we should obey the regulations there. Perhaps some rules is irrational, we can get used to them. If some is really not acceptable, such as the officer can examine everything in cabinet and our bags, We should just ignore them for they infringe our privacy. At last, I want to tell you "change what you cannot accept, accept what you cannot change."

  4. Maybe when we reduce our complaint, we can live happier. Why not to choose to forget those unhappy things and just imbibe something from the punishment??

  5. I think the moment we chose Eton Hall,we had alao chosen the regulations here.I do not say that we should be rigid, but regulations here are necessary to some extent. As to the unhappiness, why not just let it go?Tommorrow is another day.
