“Congratulations, you will be a citizen of the world!” The sentence haunted in my mind as if I had been smoothly survived several culture shocks, thus I was able to get used to the transformation of different culture. However, is there anything worth celebrating? I do not think so. Being a world citizen not only indicates that you have been flexible for instantly changeable environment, but also implies that you are no longer familiar with your own culture, in which we were born, bred, and shaped our identity. Distracting myself from my own culture, on my point of view, is grieved to some extent.
As students studying abroad, we would recall the marvelous memories about our hometown now and then. This is common phenomenon, for we are deeply impressed by our hometown, where our precious time was spent, perspiration of study was dropped, characters were shaped, friendships were established, and lifelong memories were covered. It is a place that is worth being remembered, and we have the duty to spread the culture of our motherland. However, once we reach too many countries, be accustomed to different cultures, I believe, we will fade the impression of our native land.
Culture shock can be excruciating painful indeed, but I take it as a sign of treasure our own culture. If I became a world citizen who would no more suffer from culture shock, I would be the one who is not belong to any country. Therefore, I would like to say “May culture shock always exist”.
i think you may be right. i like your point on treasure our own culture. i think we should keep our habits which will show the good of our own culture. we will always be the sons of China.
ReplyDeletePersonally, I do not agree with you in some way. Being a citizen of the world is a skill which means you embrace various cultures. For instance, we truly enjoy eating fast food at present. Every culture has its merit and defect, so why don't we accept other culture as well as preserving our Chinese culture?
ReplyDeleteBeing a world citizen indeed means we embrace the different cultures but that does not mean we lose our cultural identity entirely. We need to be tolerant and respectful of one another1s cultural background in order to communicate successfully. There would certainly be shared responsibilities and ownership of problems that exist in our world but we should still retain our distinct charateristics.
ReplyDeleteWell, Chinese culture is a root in our mind compared with other culture. Because of the different character, we can ajust ourselves to this new culture in different degree.Just be what we wanna be, it's not that easy to forget our own culture
ReplyDeleteChinese culture is remote. We will never forget the knowledge and the ideology we get from our country. However,I think we should also learn some culture in the other counties in order not to make any big mistakes.
