We have talked about the many things out the environment and species on the earth. Long before, we were not familiar with the following words such as the green house, over exploiting, endanger animals and so on. However, these problems have been focused on so much in modern times, which indicates that we are having more serious environment problems than before. At the same time, animals are disappearing at a faster speed. So we may draw a conclusion that there are some relationships between the worse environment and the extinctions. Once I heard some reasons about the extinction of dinosaurs and the changes of the environment make a big difference. If creatures want to live on they must try their best to adjust to the new surroundings including the climate and the food. During this process, some species may find it too hard to achieve this goal so they die out. No one can defeat the nature even the strong dinosaurs. All in all, whether we can live well on this earth depends on the way we treat the nature. So be kind to the nature.

About research project

I really appreciate the chance we have to carry out the research and do the report. I gained a lot from it.
The first one is my computer skills. Before I came Singapore, I had been determined to pick up how to use Microsoft Office. Due to delay and my laziness, I haven't improved much. Fortunately, the research report gave us the chance. We have a lot of tasks to do which must be done with Office,
so I really learned a lot about it.
Besides the technical skills, I also learned many skills in presentation. Such as eye contact, body language, pitch, tones, pause, gesture, voice, etc. What is more, I gained more confidence during the process, which is the most important for a foreign speaker.
Thirdly, teamwork. As Chinese students, teamwork is exactly what we lack. We learned how to share our thoughts, how to exchange ideas, how to persuade other members to accepted our ideas. Conflicts cannot be avoided, but we all understand others, we know that we all sacrificed a lot. And our friendship grows much stronger.
In a word, a meaningful research report.

My Final Blog

Yesterday, we had a wonderful basketball match, our class won the game with excitement.
It is a thrilling game from the beginning to the end.
At the beginning, our opponent team won the control of the ball. Luckily, their first shooting did not goal. On the other hand, our control of the ball also did not goal, but because of the offence from the opponent team, our team won the 1 score by the penalty shot. Moreiver, because our leader LuoWei was a little bit tired, he gave me the chance to take part in the match. Even though my debut did not last for more than 1 minnute, however, I still felt happy for I could take part in our class activity.
Due to our team leader was too strong in his basketball skill, we won a great success finally. Despite our team will confront a strong team in next match, I still strongly trust our team will win the final champion.

We are group3

After no more than 10 days, our English classes will end. As a member of group3, I am glad that I made acquaintance with so many friends and knew 5 tutors. Although in the future we will not have classes together, do more work together and have fun together, we all are still group3 forever.
Time flies. At the very beginning of our memory, we were all strangers and knew little about each other. Then in the next five months, we stay together nearly every day and start to enjoy the existence of new friends and new tutors. Paragraphs, essays, telling-stories, debate and the team research…all of them build our lives. We are busy and we complained. However, we are learning and we grew up. A few days ago, I made a video about the 19th SM3 students. Many photos about our groups are collected and I chose the most interesting ones. It took me three nights to finish the video. However, I think it is worthwhile. The pictures are the memories and they remind me of many impressing things. I hope everyone can see the video and remember our group forever.
I hope we can still remember each other when we enter the nus and we are all friends for over.

We Won, I Lost

This is a fantastic weekend. Our own basketball games finally carried out. In the game with group 5, we got the final victory. However, my performance was not satisfactory.

Luo Wei had his fingerprints all over. He scored 56 points. Shi Hongyangyang and I got 8 points each other. He Yu added 2 points. We beat group 5, who scored 49 points.

For the first half, we were playing badly. Group 5 did their job well and even took advantage for some time. The second half was ours. All our effort worked out smoothly. We got the victory as expected.

I played badly. Though we got the victory, I did not play myself. For example, in a fastbreak, there was no defender in front of me. Everything seemed so clear. All I had to do was to put the ball inside the basket. However, when the final moment came, my hand shook and the ball did not go inside. Everyone was laughing and I felt ashamed. Why could not I score such easy ball.

Anyway, we won. Nevertheless, I had to say that our group won, while I lost. Hope that next time I can have a much better performance.

Final blog

I cannot believe that I have
been in Singapore for nearly half a year. I think I have learnt a lot during my
bridging course. I have experience so many affairs with my friends. We believe
that we are friends not because we are in the same location, but because we
supported each other to get through the troubles and share the happiness
together. In Singapore I came across my old friends who came here as SM2 or as
SM2.5 before my coming. What's more important, I made some new friends here.
Maybe we all feel homesick when we are in Singapore, so we are willing to share
our experience in China. I also have gotten to know the education in Singapore
is very different from China. I think many students do not have many things to
do here and they can manage their own time. Therefore, I think the best thing I
have learnt is to organize my own life here. I need to take care of myself. To
become independent is not as simple as I have image before. However, I believe
I have improved a lot and I will be better in the future.

Blog 10 on using prepositions

In this blog, we were required to use prepositions as often as possible. By Monday, we should finish all the blogs and comment on group members’ blogs. I remembered that last Monday I chose the “hand phone” as an object to practise prepositions.

Nowadays, hand phones help us deal with many things. For most people, they cannot live without hand phones. To communicate better, we human beings invented them. In fact, with the development of electronic industry, hand phones turn out to be smarter. However, we cannot put them into the fire, water or other a little bit extreme conditions. Some people are addicted to hand phones which reflects from the phenomenon that people hold hand phones when they are on buses, underground with their eyes focusing on the screens. Some hand phones works by touching on the screen, while others have sensors to sense the gravity. Games or other software designed for these hand phones appeals to different kinds of consumers. On one hand, these applications fulfill people’s life. On the other hand, too much game does harm to us. In conclusion, we ought not to addict to hand phones and had better do more meaningful stuff.

All of you are my fortune

Our English bridging course is going to end. These five months, this maybe the most special time in my life, is the beginning of the ten years. Here, in Singapore, I have met so many people and all of them are my fortune.
How can we define the destiny? Once I asked the question in my diary on the internet, and one of my friends here answered me: the destiny is that when he was very young, a fortune-teller told his mother her child would go to a distant place in the future. It is really strange and miraculous. In an unacquainted country, we face many challenges and problems. Ever, we are afraid, bewildered and scared. Fortunately, we are not alone. We are together. During this time, we enjoy happiness; I ever made some mistakes and harm some of you; we learn some necessary skills in the university and in the society. It is my honor to make acquaintance with you.
At the end of the short get-together, I pray for all of you and me. In our ne university life, everything will be ok. My dear friends, I will not tell stories about you. The memory about each of you is different, and each piece of memory is quite precious. Thank you for the kindness and beauty which you give me.

The Legend of Sword and Fairy

The Legend of Sword and Fairy is a Chinese role-play game which described the love story of imaginary hero and beauties. The first edition of this game was produced in 1995, and because of the success of the first edition, two more edited visions were made in 1998 and 2001. Then it produced 4 sequels of the game, and the fifth sequel will be available in this July.

I remember that it was when I was eight that I first contacted this game. Playing in Internet bar, I found this game and was soon attracted by this game. Therefore the love story between Li Xiaoyao and Zhao Liner is my favorite topic then when I chatted with my friend; moreover because of my influence, my classmates began to play this game and fell in love with it just like me.

I do not know why the influence of this game is so great that many game players regard it as the best Chinese game. What I know is that this game taught me how to deal with relationship and give me a prefect sample of ideal lover. Sometime I even regard myself as Li Xiaoyao, the naïve and naught boy. Firstly, he was full of unrealistic dream and wanted to be the super hero of the world. However, after his aunt got badly disease, and married Zhao Liner, his life changed, and he gradually become more mature. Finally, his loved Liner sacrificed herself to save her country. With sadness, Li Xiaoyao became the hero which he once dreamt for.

In conclusion, The Legend of Sword and Fairy is indeed a good game, and I wish to play the fifth sequel as soon as possible.

The Visit to the Air House Open House

My peers and I went to the air force open house on Saturday; it was a worthwhile trip.
The first thing I want to mention is that I had underestimated the enthusiasm people possessed for this event. Once we exited the Hou Gang MRT station, the queue for the free shuttle bus to the air force base overwhelmed me with its length. People were really disposed to anticipate in the unusual event and take a close look at those mysterious air crafts. The sight of the “endless” queue prepared me for the massive crowd I would witness. By the way, I perceived that the free admission and transformation contribute to the large number of the visitors as well. (Personally, I doubt that whether I would have visited the open house if it charged for admission.)
After the security check, we enter into the air force base. The friendliness showed soldiers serving as receptionists quite contrasted with the stereotype I had towards soldiers, while the solemness displayed by those who armed with rifles was more natural to me.
It was amazing that I could see those fighters at such a short distance and that visitors could sit in some of them. The complicate structures, the various missiles carried by the fighter, and the complex dashboard revealed silently how powerful these military aircrafts could be. It always curious that those fighters were designed for killing and threatening, yet visitors, children especially, took pictures with them cheerfully.
The power these machines possessed was unlocked a bit during the aerial display. The motion together with the overwhelming sound shocked me profoundly. For the first time in my life I perceived that the light travels faster than the sound. Due to the high speed of the jet, I could clearly sensed that the sound did not synchronized with the sight – it fell behind. It also occurred to me that how horrible a war would be with all the swiftness, accuracy, and strength generated by technology.
It quite pathetic that only with machinery designed for destruction, could peace be preserved.
I would like to end with some interesting I witnessed: the number of people lined up for snacks exceeded the number of those who queued for sitting in fighters and instead of one of the exhibition halls, the most crowded hall was the dining hall – Food Village.

At the End

At the end of our English course, I am a little excited and regretful. I am excited because our university life which we expected for nearly a year is finally drawing close. We grew up through the bridging course in a new place. We knew ourselves better during this time and think more about our dream calmly. Furthermore, we owned many joyful memories with our new friends. The friendships enable us to forget the pain of leaving home; we can count on our new friends when we are depressed. On the other hand, I also feel regretful since I have not hit the target I set for myself yet. Before the bridging course I hoped I could be proficient in English now that it would take half of year. However, I do not have such an obvious advancement via the English classes; there are still some obstacles when using English. The reasons are as follows. I was so lazy sometimes that I just indulged myself to relax. In addition, the expectation in the beginning is too high, so it is not easy to be content with the progress. Anyhow, I am still persevering in learning English every day. I founded that using English as a tool boldly is the most efficient way. This Thursday, Qizhong let us write a feedback evaluation of our performance during the English course. Only then did I realize that it is time for me to analyze my level in English in order to improve more. Bridging course is just a start of our learning journey in NUS; I am elated to welcome my new life soon.

For my bridging course

Till my bridging course is going to finish in two weeks, I found myself poor in my English language, almost no progress.
At the beginning of bridging course, I found myself enthusiastic about English. I tried to recite vocabularies as much as I can everyday. Later, I found the advanced mathmatics and c programming is not as easy as I suppose but more interesting than English, so I concentrate myself more on these two subjects, and I even set my English aside, no longer recite vocabularies, except finish the compulsory homework.
I know my action totally wrong. My time deprived me of my passion in English, despite that I may not do well in AM and CP, but because they are new things for me, so I am more passionate in these two subjects even thoung I will not major in these two fields.
In conclusion, we need to have passion towards everything we desire. Lately, we finished our oral presentation, and luckily, our group will represent our class to participate in the competition of whole batches of sm3 students. It absolutely will be a wonderful experience for me. Moreover, I found my passion in oral presentation and speaking instead of writinng and reading. This is not right, but I could not conquer it soon. Indeed, it is a problem for me.
Maybe I may overcome it oneday, for withour perspiration, we can not satisfy our aspiration.

Getting from Bridging course

How time flies. The bridging course is coming to the end. During these time, we really relax ourselves well because there is little pressure in the bridging course.
Through bridging course, I get a lot. Firstly, I get many friends who can make me feel warm in this foreign country. I am a girl who like chatting with others. Sometimes, my roommates and I can chat with each other till midnight. For me, it is a enjoyment because we can say our feelings out without scruples. I think it is necessary for us to chat with friends because it is a blend of hearts. Furthermore, sharing both the happiness and sadness with friends is also a good thing for me. I am glad to make some friends who can enjoy and fight for our lives together.
Besides, I feel the power of cooperation from the research work. In China, seldom can we experience the feeling of truly finishing a job together. Because of the college entrance examination, we spend most of our time on studing by ourselves. However, through this research work, we get the opportunity to think and work together. From brainstorming, sending questionnaires to writing drafts and finally to presenting, we all work together. I can see the payment of everyone. Maybe sometimes we can have some disagreements. However, just from these disagreements, we can embellish our research work as well as improve ourselves. Here, I want to thank our tutor, leader and all the other group members. I enjoy doing our research work.
In two weeks, we will end our English course. I cherish the time I spent with our classmates. In group three, I began my life in Singapore formally. I will never forget the nice time of barbecuing, eating buffet and holding birthday party. Group three, our home, I love you.
Now I am ready to welcome my new life in the university. I will try to make my university life rich and nice. Heartily hope all of us can have a bright future and enjoy our lives in Singapore.

How to put on weight?

Two weeks ago, I went to the NUS Health Center because of catching a cold. Before seeing the doctor, a nurse asked me to weigh myself. However, I discovered that I have lost ten kilograms since I came to Singapore, shocking me greatly.
I always wanted to increase my weight in order to be stronger, but I failed again and again. Therefore, to realize my ‘dream’, I searched Internet and gained some effective ways to put on weight.
The most basic way of increasing weight is having a good sleep. Sleeping well enables you to have a huge appetite, which is definitely beneficial for you to increase your weight. Furthermore, an adequate sleep contributes to the digestion and absorption of food.
The second way of increasing weight is eating chocolate before sleeping. According to a research carried out by Chinese Scientist, average one hundred grams’ chocolate contains thirty grams’ fat, which is far higher that other food. In addition, if eating chocolate before sleeping, the massive energy from chocolate is easy to be converted into fat, which will be stored in your body.
I am going to obey these two rules every day and I hope that I am able to increase my weight within few months.

Sisters, Forever

A harsh month has just passed. I was freaked out by what I experienced but G, one of my sisters, helped me out.
Actually, it was not a big deal, but I just could not figure out how things came in this way since lots of them were beyond my acceptance. How could a person fall down and sleep suddenly with no omen? I felt confused and scared. After I got home, I called G for dinner. I wanted to talk with someone who I trusted. At first, I intended to conceal that spooky afternoon. However, G realized something was wrong with me. Then, I confessed. She was shocked, too. After a few minutes’ silence, she gazed at me, said “If you do not like it, do not force yourself. Life is always out of expectation and full of surprise. Obstacles cannot be avoided because you were born to learn from them. No matter what choices you made, we will support you. Just face it .Sometimes, you should think more about yourself. Call me anytime you need help.” The talk lasted a long time. I know I am still the one to make the final decision but I felt released and secure after the talk.
The following week, I solved the problem and ensured my determination. I returned to my friends. Everything seemed as peaceful as before. They are always around me, care about me. Even in a foreign country where my family is miles away, I am still not alone. I cannot be more grateful because I have someone to share happiness and sorrow. I know who to turn to for help.
The English bridging course is coming to an end. Thanks, my dear tutors and friends! Let’s answer the curtain call with a happy ending.

The chaos of our world

Heal the world...make it better place...for you and for me and the entire human race...As the song of Micheal Jackson plays, I fall deep in thoughts. What our world has become! There are inevitable nature disasters happening more and more frequently as time goes by. The earthquakes in Japan, the tsunami in Malasia and Indonisia...What is worse, the human actions causing chaos are occurring more and more as time goes by, the killing of Sadam, the resign of the head of Singapore...I can feel the heart screaming inside of me. What our world has become!
Human created the world for each and everyone to live in it harmoniously and peacefully. But as the greediness of human's nature increases each day, people started killing and manipulating. People do things againt nature. People lie without hesitation which is more and more difficult to reveal the truth. People cause chaos among the innocent ones. People do shameless things shamelessly, like singers and actresses take off clothes fearlessly, and they make up scandels of themselves to gain attention of audiences. People make it right instead of standing up and critisicing the phenominon. As a result, the world is becoming more and more dirty and filthful by each day. Innocent people get hurt but they do not know it. They are actually the biggest criminals in responsible for the chaos. Their need for fun is the motivation of all the fake shameless things.
And the need of money is another murderer in this society. More people do not know what is right and wrong anymore, they do not know what is real and how they are meant to feel anymore. Tragic as it goes on!

Poems

In ancient history, people write poems to express their strong feelings. Nowadays, poems have become a kind of art. We have so many ways of expressing the same ideas. But the aim of writing poems never change. I personally do not really love poems, since I can not understand what the poetic means in most situations. But now, I have a whole new point of view on it.
A thousand readers, a thousand Harmlets. As the saying goes, I find it pretty wise. We can never trully understand what the poetic's real feelings when he or she was creating the piece of work. We are not the fish, so how can we know the fish's happiness? So what we really need is to add our own point of view to each piece and make it live again. It is the best when we think the poem is actuallt telling what is deep inside our hearts which is hard for us to tell. Maybe the poem just describes the quickly fade away feeling at a certain point of time. Maybe the poem reminds us of what our hearts went through when we were young, and it brings that moment to us once more. Maybe the poem creats a world we never imagined before which only exists in our wildest dreams. Anyway, just remember, poems are dead, but with our own personal experiences, they come back to life. It is pointless for us to try to understand the writer's thoughts. It is important for us to add our own thoughts to them.
Poems are different in different people's eyes. But that is the aim of poetics. That is the soul of poems.

Titanic

Last night, I watched the classic old movie Titanic. It is very famous all over the world, so as soon as you see my title, you would be a little depressed. But in this blog, my focus is not on the beautiful love story between Rose and Jack, I actually want to talk about some details in the movie which is not that obvious and give some my own opinion.
Rose, the heroine, is a girl born in a high class family compared to Jack, the poor guy. She was carefully brought up and strictly taught since she was a little girl. She behave gracefully and she is a lady in other people's eyes, which is exactly what her family hoped for. But deep inside, she is a rebellous person with her strong personal opinion of her own towards everything in her life. She hates the sophisticated manners she should be aware of whenever or wherever she is as a lady. Each inch of her body shouts desperately for true freedom and independent. I think she is a girl with advanced thoughts born pethaticly in the wrong time and society. I have something in common with her deep inside and I really understand and appreciate her. I thhink highly of her bravery when it comes to fighting for her freedom in love. She does not see Jack's social status, which is precious at that time, even today. I think she really worth our praise. The sad but beautiful love legend should go on and on!
That is my point of view in this classsical movie. I was also deeply impressed by the musicians on board when the ship started to sink into the deep ocean. They sacrificed themself to thousands of passengers who actually did not hear their music. But they did a great job. The selfless behaviour is worth our respect and should also be praised. Their story will go on. The picture of them playing music calmly will never fade away on our minds.

Who am I

We SM3 students had a test about personality some time ago. It was not a surprise to me when it comes to the results, since I had have similar tests before. But this time, the results reflects me more, it tells more about my inner self that I did not realise before.
I am a steady and concise person, for the results show the highest in the two parts. I am also a influential person, but this feature is not as strong as the latter two. I am not a dominant person. The result is my imagine before other people. But when it comes to my true self, that is, when I am in stressful condition, I tend to be more concise and dominant, but much less influential and steady. That is one's true inner self. We tend to wear a mask before other people, but true self is something unchangable, it is born to be like it is, and it will show the most under stress. I think the results are right about me. I do tend to be more bossy when I am in bad mood or when I am not relaxed. When I am in a good mood, I am very active and sociable. I think if I can change myself to a better one, I would rather be more influential, since the society now focus on communication ability, that is, EQ. But you are who you are, it is really hard to change oneself from the start. I think it will take a long time to change my true self. I hope one day, my inner self is the same as my image among people. This way, I can be my true self, no more masks.
What is your personality, my dear friend?

Good Bye, English bridging course. Good Bye, Calculus

Time flies by, and the 7-month-bridging-course is coming to the end. I do not know how to describe my feeling. Am I cheerful? It is possible, for I do not need to pay great effort to finish endless paragraphs, essays, and blogs. Am I sad? Perhaps, I think I am successful wasting five months, not because of the class, but for my laziness. Am I in peace? Eh, maybe, having experiencing the English classes, I believe that it will not be a great difficulty to survive in Nus. However, I could not stop feeling lost, for I do not think I am doing what a student should do. Watching movies, writing irrelevant essays, and studying my spare time hobbies take most of my time, and I find I always finish what I should do at the last day. It is terrible for a student, more precisely, an undergraduate. I should exert myself to prepare for the coming university life.

In two weeks, I will end my English bridging course as well as calculus. It is sad that I could not regard coming to Celc as a routine. It is sadder that there are no more classes for the fascinating mathematics lessons. However, I think we should to accept the fact. Everything has an ending, and what we should do is to face it positively and get ready to the coming challenge. Thank you, my dear tutors, my lovely classmates.

Invisible Power of Movies

Recently, I
watched several movies such as
The Fast and The Furious 5, Pirates
of the Caribbean 4
, Shutter Island and Godfather 1.
I
watched the former two movies in Golden Village of Vivo City. I enjoyed the
show very well, and I felt very excited about the movies, especially
The
Fast and The Furious 5
. In the show, there are not much
plots about the races than the former 4 movies of
The Fast and The Furious 5,
but in this show the director presented the intelligence, courage and attachment
of the characters. I do not think they are law-abiding citizens because they
robbed money from the boss of a criminal organization in Brazil. They just want
to steal the money at first, but after a few of conflicts their purpose had
changed from to be rich into to revenge for their friends. The movie was very
exciting for powerful and realistic actions in it. So did Pirates of the Caribbean 4.
The two movies are both very successful, and they both have made lots of money
in every show. I can hardly know when the two series of movies will end as long
as they can make money. In the world, why people make movies? People will watch
them and pay for it, so the producers will make money. However, in my opinion,
there are two kinds of good movies: ones are movies which can make lots of
money, and other are movies which can help people experience a valuable
experience of others or some moving and veridical events in history, or even
some science or philosophy field which very few people knows (such as Shutter Island). I like movies and regard them as a short-cut to
know the real world. However, we must know most of the movie cannot represent
the real world.

Chinese literature

Chinese literature
As a Chinese, I feel proud because of Chinese literature.
Chinese literature has a very long history. It concludes many aspects, such as poems and novels. In Chinese literature history, poems are vital because they can represent our culture to some degree. Chinese poem was at its peak in Tang dynasty. There were about 50,000 poems written by about two thousand and two hundred poets. I like Chinese poems because they have strong metrical sense and rich connocation. In addition, most of those poems can show us some scenes and take us to some certain period of time. Through poems, we can learn about the feeling of the poets and get more information of the life in history. Futhermore, there are some poems which are very interesting. For instance, once there was a famous poem written by different Chinese characters which have the same pronunciation.
About Chinese novels, I want to talk about a special novel in Chinese literature called "Kung fu novels". It is very popular among both young and old generations. The first Kung fu novel in Chinese history is written in Tang dynasty. Nowaday, Jin yong, Gu long and some other writers are all the representatives of the Kung fu novels. A lot of their novels have been adapted into TV plays. I am just one of the people who grow up reading their Kung fu novels.
Chinese literature is great and profound. It is the fruit of Chinese five thousand history. Different people can have different opinions of Chinese literature because even the literature itself has many aspects and it can lead you to different directions when you are in different moods. However, none of us can totally understand the essence of Chinese literature. Only study it by heart, can we obtain more about it.
Chinese literature takes a big part of the literature in the whole world. I like Chinese literature and I am proud of it.

My Computer Is Back

Still remember several weeks ago, I could hardly do anything to my computer after an unprecedented crash. I knew in my heart, either the motherboard or the hard disk was destroyed. I could not help recall the first day when we were back to CELC, my precious Lenovo Y460N dropped onto the ground because the writing pad was not steady. I thought it may be the cause.

What else could I do? That night, I searched for someone who had sent their Lenovo computers to the service station for help. They all went to Funan. Ha, what a long way. I would not go there because I wanted my Y460N back as soon as possible. As a matter of fact, I noted down the address of the Lenovo Service Center, which is Megalink System, Bukit Timah Rd. I thought it should be quite near to Clementi MRT, but I was wrong. When I searched for the route on Google Maps, I found that it takes a bit more than half an hour to get there from Central Library. Nevertheless, I had to go, for my precious Lenovo Y460N.

On Monday after class, I, together with a friend who was willing to go with me, took the bus to Lenovo Service Center. It was indeed a long way. We changed bus in Ngee Ann Poly. It was quite fun to stay there because we were surprised to see that the students there discuss their recent examination answers in Chinese!

Finally, we reached Bukit Timah Shopping Center. Lenovo Service Center is on the top floor. Hence, we saw the whole building from inside. Most of the stores are maid agencies. My friend and I felt a bit depressed because they all seemed like human trafficking.

We waited for several minutes in the Service Center. The staffs there were quite warm-hearted, but they seemly were not so professional in computer. They did not know how to solve problems properly because they could not fix my computer and they moved my original hard disk and gave me a new one. The whole process took them a week! However, I would say I was lucky because I did not have to pay for the hard disk and system that I lately removed and reinstalled.

I paid 200 dollars deposit there to have my former hard disk back. I wanted my data. Luckily, I found a SM3scholar who has the connecting line for hard disk so I did not have to go and buy an external hard disk drive. The disk was totally broken as it was so slow in transforming data. It took me about two nights to have my important data back.

Now, my reborn Y460N is in good status. I hope my computer will not crash for the next two years.

Visit to Singapore National Museum and Art Museum

After our second progress test, we went on our second learning journey, which was the visit to National Museum of Singapore and Singapore Art Museum. To be honest, I was not so impressed by the exhibits there. I could not even recall any specific stuff. However, still there exists something beyond exhibits that made me thinking.

First was the number of the exhibits. I had to admit that the buildings really impressed me, but the scale of the exhibits disappointed me. This is the so-called NATIONAL MUSEUM? This is the so-called ART MUSEUM? The exhibits there are not more than even a local museum in China.

Second, the visitors were not as many as I expected. I could count that during the whole visit we paid, there were no more than 200 tourists in one museum. This is absolutely unbelievable.

Third, I found that many exhibits of the museum connected to China closely. The clothes, the food, these are all from China. I thought the Singapore culture was quite eastern, but seemly the Chinese culture was cherished with more value.

Visit to National Museum of Singapore and Singapore Art Museum was not so entertaining. However, it gave me another view of this nation.

treasures in movies

There are some classical lines haunting us until the curtain has been dropped. We sometimes try to recall them when chatting with our friends. Blot out our memory, we surprisingly find that we have so many precious treasures picking up from movies. For this reason I’d like to share a few famous lines that I prefer here.

“How do you know it’s love if you’ve never been in love before?”
“Cause I feel it.”
“Where?”
“In my stomach. It’s all warm.” (From “Leon”)
Love is an instinct. We cannot describe it well, but we can feel it. Falling in love is so appropriate to be used. One day when you are infatuated with someone, you will know the heat.

“Life was like a box of chocolates. You never know what you’re going to get.”
“I don’t know if we each have a destiny or if we’re all just floating around accidental-like on a breeze, but I think maybe is both.”
“I just feel like running.” (From Forrest Gump)
When destiny fooled at him, he just ran even though he did not know the particular reason. You could tease him, you could look down on him, but you must have envied of him who acquired much more than others. He is not smart, but he is so persistent in his love and his life.

“Some of you guys are here because you know somebody. Some of you guys are here because you think you’re somebody. There is one guy in here who is going to be somebody.” (From “The pursuit of happiness”)
When facing the fierce competition in society, one needs to be strict with himself at the crucial moment. Success only inclines to people who persevere. Once you have a determination, please pursue it without hesitation.

How do you like them? Which movie ever touched you a lot? What are the words leaving a deep impression on you? Share it with us!

Enjoy walking

Recently I go back to Eton Hall on foot almost every day (except rainy days~). At the beginning, I did this in order to lose weight. However, now I just enjoy the walk and get used to it.
Sometimes several friends walk with me, and I really love to talk with them. Although we walk in different paces, we do not care too much and just go at our favourite speeds. It is a good chance to make friends, especially to know more about the girls who are usually low-key but easy-going indeed. We can tell jokes and laugh out loud together. Besides, if we meet difficulties or sorrowful matters, we confide worries or give advice to each other.
If no one goes together, it is also a good opportunity for me to relax myself. Walking alone may seem a little bit weird and lonely. Actually, I enjoy being tranquil or even isolate myself against the noisy society for a while. With on one nearby knowing me but only beautiful sceneries, I can immerse myself into a totally spirit silence. I have enough time to recall for my old memories and plan for the future. I ponder a lot about my life, my family, my friends and myself. If I am in a good mood, I also take pictures on the tropical rain forests, the seaside, the black birds and flower petals flowing in the air… I hope when I don’t live in Eton Hall, I can still keep the memories about the walk.
Every day after my one-and-half –an-hour “journey”, I feel physical tired but mental relaxed. I hope I can keep this habit till the end of bridging course~

Chinese poetry

Hundreds of poems have been recited by us from even the day we learned Chinese character, and we are used to quote some famous sentences when we talk, sing and write. It seems that poetry is an inseparable part of the great Chinese language. Whenever we read it, we are fascinated by the amazing structure as well as the abundant meaning. However, Chinese poetry is only open to the one who knows Chinese, thus this cultural achievements are prevalent in limited area.

Although there are many translations of Chinese poetry, we find it difficult to grasp the meaning in the literal, unimaginative edition. “If you want to see more, go upstairs” this sentence is well known by almost all Chinese, and I believe most of them would be stunned when they read this translation. Translating Chinese poetry into other languages is like the action of adapt it into modern Chinese language, namely, it just convey the superficial meaning of the poem and abandon the emotion and hided meaning of it. It does not make any sense at all. For instance, the moon, swallow, river and so on are the materials that deliver the feeling of homesick, but it merely deliver the straight meaning in most languages.

Therefore, I do not think reading the English edition of Chinese poetry is a decent method of knowing traditional Chinese literature. Moreover, it is the same with other kinds of Chinese literature, such as Chinese heroic fiction, Song ci, Yuan qu and so on. No wonder there is no Chinese has won Noble Literature Prize ever. It is because the literal translation cannot convey the original idea. Therefore, I believe we should teach foreigners Chinese before we teach the literature. Fortunately, increasing foreigners are learning Chinese now, and I think Chinese poetry will have more reader in future.

What have you learnt
After a five-month bridging course, we are about to graduate from this course. At this exciting moment, when everyone is celebrating and cheering, I keep on asking myself: “how much have you learned?”
This question bothered me so badly that I can hardly sleep well at night. When I counted the skills or new knowledge, I found it tragic that it seemed that I had learnt nothing. I asked my mother that if I was wasting my time all these days. Then she asked me: “can you understand the special spoken English in Singapore now; can you order in McDonalds like locals now; can you speak English in front of others without shyness…”
Slightly surprised, I answered: “yes, but these things seem not to be knowledge.”
She said that that knowledge is a thing that you can never count and name, and the knowledge that I have learnt in my bridging course is just like what she mentioned.
Then I asked her how I could know that I learned well. She said: “when you go to bed at night, what you feel are fulfillment and pride but not guilt; when you get up in the morning, what you feel are excitement and energy; when you listen to lecture, your mind is filled with questions put forward by lecturer… then you can know that you must learn well.”
I think I should stop thinking how much I have learnt, but consider how much I have done to learn.

Never enough
Nearly all people are professionals in some field: some are good at basketball; some master badminton; also some people do well in science. I used to be very confident about my ability of sports, and in some sports I can rarely find rivals from my friends, and swimming is one of them. Yesterday I went to NUS to swim. After a simple preparation, I jumped into the swimming pool. Soon I found that a middle-aged American male was just next to me. So I said to myself: “let me race with him and beat him.” In the first round, we marched together, I felt so exhausted because he swam so fast, and I just narrowly followed him. Soon I was far behind him, but I did not want to give up. Perhaps in the sixth round, I just cannot move my hands and legs in the middle of the pool. I changed my posture to an easier way, and the man was still swimming in a high speed. As long as I reached the edge of the pool, I got out of the water and dragged to the wash room. I took a 30-minute bath there, during which I even cannot breathe, stars wrinkle in my eyes. I had never felt so tired before. After a ten-minute rest, I got out of the wash room. Weird, shocked, I found that the man was still in the pool and swimming in the same speed. I can only say that he defeated me thoroughly.
I used to believe that I can hardly find equals among surroundings, and I always believe that I do not need to practice hard to become better. I think this experience told me that we should be aware that you can never be good enough to have no rivals, no matter in what field. Sometimes when we think that we have already learnt something well, maybe we are not good enough.

Since this week’s topic is appreciating poetry, I would like to share some opinions of my own on that theme.

First of all, I have to admit that I am lack of a sense of poems, which means if it is my turn to think of and write out a poem, I will definitely not live up to others’ anticipation including mine. For my part, poems are products of poets’ emotion. Whatever moods poets are in, terrible, sorrowful or pleasant, elated, we can look through their poems and find the reflection more or less. Actually, poems are in different types, long or short, in good order or not. In some parts, poems are difficult to compose; in other aspects, it is not. From my perspective, sometimes poems are a complex of controversies.

Another point is that poems in various countries reflect different culture background. You may find it hard to understand foreign poems sometimes by the way how they are translated into your mother tongue. Poets use particular symbolism and arrange it in specific parts of a poem to convey a special feeling when they are doing some composition. Traditional Chinese poems contain a large amount of symbolism, such as sunshine, moonlight, grass, lake and so on. In a word, most of objects we can see around us can be chosen as symbolism, even some imaginary things.

At last, those are superficial observations of my own on poems and you had better not take them seriously.

B10 Swimming

Well, today, I want to try something new in my last blog.

After coming to Singapore
I suddenly like swimming
Because
It can help you forget your weight
It can help you be away from the sweat
It can help you get out of the mosquito’s attack

10 round, needs 35 to 40 minutes to finish
However
The emotion in each circle is different
1st round—a good start!
2nd round—a little tired.
3rd round—more tired.
4th round—feeling I can’t continue any more.
5th round—anticipate the midsession rest.
6th round— new start and found I’m not tired as I imagine.
7th round—I left 3 rounds or 4 rounds?
8th round—Wow, I have unlimited power!
9th round—I can swim faster and faster!
10th round—I don’t feel that tired, but don’t want to go on any more.
Completing the whole 10 rounds, landing happily
And found, I already can’t rise my legs

In the process of pursuing the 10 rounds
There are a lot of things will happen
Many other people will swim around you
Some ones you can go after them
who let you forget the loneliness and tiredness
Although you will be exhausted after that
you will have the happiness of success
Some ones you just can’t follow them
Then you will tell yourself
Just keeping on your own way

The 10 rounds like the final goal of life
While each one is a phase to come true the dream
At the beginning of it, you must be ambitious
But, after a while, tiredness is coming
The youth always like that
After the fear, the fight, the thought
Setting out again
You will find that actually
The journey is not as terrible as you thought
In fact, as long as keeping action
You are moving ahead forever
Tired or not
Just a king of feeling
Occasionally, observe the wall in front of you
That is a kind of encourage
At the end
You will get the happiness

Recently, I very like the following sentence,
“Rest is for the longer way.”
